July 05, 2011
Fredericksburg, VA -- July 5, 2011 -- Job.com, the 4th most visited career site on the Internet, is joining forces with Celebrate Virginia Live to host Special Olympics Night at the Job.com Pavilion on Friday, July 8th, with country musician Darius Rucker headlining the evening.
The event is being held to recognize and honor local Special Olympics Virginia athletes in Area 11, which serves Special Olympics athletes in the City of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George, and Caroline Counties. Athletes and members of Special Olympics and Job.com, including Special Olympics Senior VP, Roy Zeidman, and Job.com CEO, Brian Alden, will be in attendance to help create awareness of the Special Olympics program in our area, raise donations, and encourage volunteers to get involved.
Special Olympics Virginia Senior VP, Roy Zeidman, shared, "We're grateful for our friends at Job.com and Celebrate Virginia Live, our law enforcement volunteers, all of our Special Olympics athletes and family members, and Darius Rucker, who will be a part of Special Olympics night this Friday. Music, like sports, can be a powerful catalyst for good in our community. With support from stars like Darius Rucker and his fans, we can continue to change lives through our programs."
The plans have been laid to provide concert goers with a variety of ways to participate and pitch in while attending the July 8th show. A "Bucket Brigade" formed of local law enforcement, Special Olympics volunteers, and athletes will be found roaming the crowd, collecting donations while "Text2Give" messages will be displayed throughout the venue encouraging concert goers to donate directly from their mobile phones. Additionally, special edition Job.com Pavilion 2011 T-shirts will be on sale with 100% of the proceeds benefitting Special Olympics programs and their athletes.
"Special Olympics Night is dedicated to all the athletes and their families in our community," said Brian Alden, CEO of Job.com. "As a Fredericksburg based business, we're thrilled to have the opportunity to participate with such a great local organization such as Special Olympics." Alden added, "We're looking forward to sharing this experience with the community, the athletes and Celebrate Virginia Live and hope this can turn into an annual event."
Gates to the show open at 6 p.m. and local Special Olympics athletes will take the stage following the opening band to introduce Darius Rucker.
